Melissa Tannahill was born and raised in Sherwood Park, Alberta. She comes to WAVES with a Specialization Degree in Animal Biology from the University of Alberta in 2007 and with her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Calgary in 2012. During veterinary school she pursued training at both the Edmonton Valley Zoo and Calgary Zoo where she worked on elephants, otters, bats, snakes, bears and penguins. Immediately after graduation she joined a mixed animal practice in Camrose Alberta, working on cows, horses, cats, dogs, sheep, snakes, and everything in between. Melissa Tannahill then moved to Edmonton to be closer to her husband and has been doing emergency medicine since 2014. She enjoys the fast paced environment of emergency medicine and challenging cases. 

Dr. Tannahill is the team leader in emergency medicine at WAVES hospital.

Her family moved to Vancouver Island in spring 2018 and they enjoy meeting all the new people and exploring the West Coast!
