Admitting Patients Flea Protocol:

Each pet at WAVES undergoes a thorough physical examination, including an assessment for ectoparasites (skin parasites). In some cases, pets are diagnosed with fleas which are small insects that live on the pets’ skin. These are extremely contagious and can affect the health of other animals in hospital. As such, WAVES has a strict flea protocol to maintain optimal health for all patients in hospital.

If your pet is diagnosed with fleas, there are two options.

  1. Treat the fleas. This includes an oral medication that kills adult fleas and a topical treatment to kill the eggs on the skin.
  2. Discharge patient from the hospital. We can not house a patient with fleas in the hospital.

If you have any questions, please contact WAVES management.
